Several Brewing Methods For White Tea

1. Cup Brewing Method

Suitable Teas: Loose teas such as Silver Needle, White Peony, and new white teas.

Tea-to-Water Ratio: 1:100. Use about 3 grams of tea for every 300 milliliters of water.

Water Temperature: Around 170°F to 185°F (76°C to 85°C).

Brewing Time: Pour hot water directly over the tea leaves until the cup is seven-eighths full, and let steep for about 2-3 minutes.

2. Gongfu Brewing Method

Preparation: Warm the teapot and cups first.

Suitable Teas: New white teas, Silver Needle, White Peony, etc.

Tea-to-Water Ratio: 1:30.

Water Temperature: Adjust according to the tea’s grade and age.

Brewing: Brew in a gaiwan (a traditional Chinese teapot with a lid) for a short period, such as 10 seconds, and gradually increase the steeping time for each subsequent brew.

3. Steeping Method (for Aged Teas)

Suitable Teas: Aged white teas, especially tea cakes and compressed teas.

Tea-to-Water Ratio: 1:200. Use about 5 grams of tea for every 1 liter of water.

Water Temperature: Boiling water.

Brewing: Place the tea in a heatproof teapot or jar, pour in boiling water, and let steep for about 30 minutes or longer.

4. Glass Teapot Brewing Method

Suitable Teas: New white teas, Silver Needle, White Peony, etc.

Tea-to-Water Ratio: 1:50.

Water Temperature: Around 194°F (90°C).

Brewing: Pour hot water over the tea leaves in a glass teapot, and let steep for about 1 minute. This method allows you to observe the tea leaves unfurling in the water.

5. Cold Brewing Method

Suitable Teas: Silver Needle, White Peony, and other high-quality white teas.

Tea-to-Water Ratio: 1:150. Use about 5 grams of tea for every 750 milliliters of water.

Brewing: Place the tea in a bottle, pour in cold water, and let steep for at least 1 hour. Refrigerating the tea before drinking can enhance its flavor.

6. Boiling Method

Suitable Teas: Aged white teas, especially those over 3 years old.

Tea-to-Water Ratio: Use about 10-15 grams of tea for boiling.

Brewing: Place the tea in a pot and add water. Boil for about 3 minutes over high heat, then strain the tea and serve. Alternatively, you can simmer the tea over low heat for an extended period.

Each brewing method brings out different flavors and aromas in the tea, so feel free to experiment to find your favorite way to enjoy white tea.
